Goals and Objectives


During the Neurology Clerkship you will be expected to take focused neurological history and detailed neurological examination.  During the three week rotation, you will be exposed to all the common neurological problems such as migraine, seizure, stroke, multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathy, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc. 

                                          

This rotation will be a wonderful hands-on experience with one-to-one teaching by the attending physician.  Those who are rotating with Dr. Alapati and Dr. Mulpur will be able to attend muscular dystrophy (MDA) clinic and also the child rehabilitation center (mostly children with epilepsy).  When the attending is on call, you will be able to see cases of acute stroke and evaluation of these patients for possible TPA treatment.

 

Procedures

 

During the rotation you will be exposed to the various neurological procedures such as EMG/NCV, EEG, evoked potentials, lumbar punctures, MRI/CT scans, carotid dopplers, and Botox injections (rotating with Drs. Alapati and Hitchcock). 

 

Didactic Lectures

 

The following lectures will be given during the rotation:

  1. Stroke
  2. Epilepsy
  3. Multiple Sclerosis
  4. Peripheral Neuropathy
  5. Headache
  6. Alzheimer’s Disease
