Surgical Grand Rounds ( Schedule )

All divisions in the Department of Surgery participate in this weekly conference. The subject matter covers the entire spectrum of surgery and health care issues. Visiting professors present memorial lectureships several times each year. Grand Rounds is held each Thursday at 5:00 pm in the West Pavilion Conference Center.

Mortality and Morbidity Conference

Mortality and Morbidity Conferences are held at all hospitals. The University and VA Hospitals have a combined M&M conference on Tuesdays at 7:15 a.m. Cooper Green and Children's Hospital hold their M&M conferences.

Surgical Intern's Conference
This is a weekly meeting of PGY-1 residents which take place for the first 6 weeks of the year. These meetings help to introduce residents to hospital routines and basic clinical problems.

Resident's Conference/Basic Science Course ( Schedule )

This is a combination of basic science and discussion of clinical problems. The subjects cover a complete textbook review on a 2 year cycle. Multiple choice examinations are given periodically in preparation for the ABSITE exam. This conference is held each Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. (Except for the 2nd Tuesday of each month, BSC will be held at 7:15 a.m.) Presentations are made by upper level residents with faculty discussant.

Trauma, Burns & Surgical Critical Care

  • Weekly "Multi-disciplinary Conference". This is a meeting of Trauma, Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, Rehabilitation medicine, Social services in order to discuss patient progress and improve care.
  • Weekly QI meeting: this is a quality improvement conference used to discuss outcomes and means to improve care.
  • Critical Care informal "discussion meetings".
