The general tuition and fees for students attending the University of Alabama School of Medicine are payable in two installments. The first payment is due on or before September 1 and the second and final installment is due on or before January 1.
Students who take a leave of absence (LOA) from the University of Alabama School of Medicine for non-academic reasons (e.g. voluntary leave)
- within 15 days of the date the term begins
will be charged no tuition installment, and will pay only the health related fees* for the academic year.
- after 15 days of the date the term begins but prior to January 1
will be charged the first general tuition and fee installment and the remaining health related fees* for the academic year.
- on or after January 1
will be charged both general tuition and all fee installments for the academic year
- health related fees include hepatitis B vaccine (if needed), student health fee, prepaid dental and hospitalization (if they participate), HIV/disability and pager fee**.
Students who are placed on a leave of absence (LOA) from the University of Alabama School of Medicine for academic reasons (e.g. involuntary leave), resign, transfer or are dismissed
- within 15 days of the date the term begins
will be charged no general tuition installment, but all fees for the academic year.
- after 15 days of the date the term begins but prior to January 1
will be charged the first general tuition installment, and all fees for the academic year.
- on or after January 1
will be charged both general tuition and fee installments for the academic year.
Students who go on LOA and return in the same academic year, return in a later year, or those entering with advanced standing
- prior to January 1
will be charged both general tuition and fee installments for the academic year.
- on or after January 1
will be charged the second general tuition and fee installment for the academic year.
Concurrent Programs
- MD/PhD and other concurrent UAB programs students are charged specific fees relevant to the School of Medicine while they are on leave to the UAB Graduate School and other schools. Fees are not duplicated by either school.
Extended Attendance for Summer Work and August Graduation
- The general tuition and fee schedule is quoted for the entire year. Students who must extend attendance to complete their academic requirements are subject to an additional charge which will be prorated according to one-third of the annual charge for tuition and fees for each additional 4-month period or part there of. If the student is continuing with patient contact, liability insurance will be required.
December Graduates
- Will register for the academic year and will be charged the first tuition installment and all fees for the year.
