Phase 4 - Implementation
Goal of Phase 4: The student will follow through on the decision reached in Phase 3, through the appropriate processes, and gain the specialty match of choice.
Keys to success:
- Diligence in the details and deadlines of ERAS, NRMP, and ROLIC.
- Prepare for, and perform well in interviews.
UASOM programs:
-Medical Student Services will notify you of all pertinent deadlines.
-Career Support staff will assist you to obtain letters of reference, write a personal statement, prepare a resume. They will also offer any other assitance you may require.
-Medical Student Services will provide interview workshops.
-The House Staff, Attendings, and other allied health care professionals can be excellent resources for personal contacts or "insider" information about any particular program.
-AAMC Careers In Medicine - These pages give excellent advice about the process.
-Student Organizations and Activities- Student Organizations, especially the specialty interest groups provide multiple opportunities to demonstrate interest and commitment to a particular field.
-Mentor Program- Your mentor can be a great resource for application and interview advice, counsel, and tips.
On-Line Resources - The Phase 4 MedCAREERS web site, CareerMD, FREIDA, NRMP, and ACGME are all important resources for understanding the process of applying, interviewing, and evaluating specific programs.
We strongly recommend that you make notes about specific programs before and after your interview, in your Careers In Medicine notebook, so that you can review them before you do your final ROLIC.
