Comprehensive clinical treatment of psychiatric and physiological brain disorders in adults, adolescents, and children is provided through UAB Mental Health Services, which includes the Department of Psychiatry and Behaviorial Neurobiology, the Community Psychiatry program, the Center for Psychiatric Medicine, and the Smolian Psychiatric Clinic.
The following services are provided by UAB Mental Health Services:
- The Center for Psychiatric Medicine (CPM) and Smolian Psychiatric Clinic (SPC) provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health services.
- The Division of Public Psychiatry (encompassing the Community Psychiatry Program and the Susbstance Abuse Programs) provides psychiatric evaluation and state of the art treatment for patients in its catchment area, and a day treatment program.
- The Child and Adolescent Division encompasses an adolescent inpatient unit, preschool, pre-adolescent and adolescent day treatment programs, and outpatient services.
- The Addiction Recovery Program for adults offers intensive outpatient, partial hospital, inpatient detoxification, recovery stabilization and family services. The Professionals' Resource Program is a specialized treatment and liaison service for healthcare and other professionals with addictive disease.
- The Medical/Surgical Psychiatry Program provides clinical services to patients with medical as well as psychiatric disorders.
- Geriatric Psychiatry offers comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for those suffering from disorders associated with aging.
