Comprehensive medical care of the normally and abnormally functioning female reproductive system, with special emphasis on pre-existing conditions which threaten the well-being of the mother or fetus, is provided by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The department works closely with the Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit at UAB Hospital and with physicians statewide to manage high-risk pregnancies.

Other services offered include the treatment of:

malignancies of the female reproductive system

endocrine disorders related to the female reproductive system

difficult gynecological problems, including: urodynamics, infertility, and genetics/prenatal diagnosis
