Dermatopathology Fellowship
Program: This one-year dermatopathology fellowship is sponsored jointly by the Departments of Dermatology and Pathology of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. It is designed to provide intensive training in dermatopathology for board-certified/eligible graduates of Dermatology and Pathology programs. Experience in the techniques of immunohistochemistry as it pertains to dermatopathology will be provided, as well as appropriate training in pathology for those with a dermatology background and in dermatology for pathology graduates. The fellow will be expected to identify areas of interest in the specialty and pursue them through a clinical/basic research project. The fellowship program director is Dr. Aleodor Andea, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Dermatolgy.
Requirements: Candidates must be board-certified or eligible for certification in Anatomic Pathology, AP/CP or Dermatology.
Stipends: Salary levels are commensurate with the level of postgraduate training.

Postdoctoral Fellowship (T32 NIH Training Grant) in Investigative Dermatology
The Department of Dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham was awarded a T32 training grant entitled "Training in Investigative Dermatology" in May, 2006. The Department is currently seeking two candidates for slots beginning May 1, 2009. The incumbents should have an M.D., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or the equivalent and must be an American citizen or permanent resident.
The program will provide interdisciplinary training to talented individuals who are interested in becoming independent researchers in the area of skin carcinogenesis, cell cycle regulation, signaling pathways regulating proliferation (particularly sonic hedgehog signaling) and development of suitable murine models.
In addition to mentor based research projects, trainees will participate in didactic activities that will strengthen the intellectual foundation required for innovative dermatological projects and will receive rigorous instruction in the principles necessary for ethical research.

Procedural Dermatology Fellowship
Program: This is a 12 month ACGME accredited fellowship designed to provide comprehensive training in all program requirements of procedural dermatology. Fellowship faculty are: Conway Huang, M.D., Associate Professor and Program Director (Mohs micrographic surgery, general dermatologic surgery, and cutaneous oncology), Marian Northington, M.D., Assistant Professor (cosmetic dermatology and cutaneous laser surgery) and Amy Theos, M.D., Assistant Professor (pediatric dermatologic surgery). Additional exposure to head and neck surgery, oculoplastics, dermatopathology, ASDS preceptorships, and others is available. The fellow is expected to complete various projects as outlined in a scholarly prductivity table including didactic talks to nursing personnel, residents, publication, and presentation at a national meeting.
Requirements: Candidates must be board eligible/certified in Dermatology.
Stipends: Salary levels are commensurate with postgraduate year and are set by the UAB GME office.
