The Spasticity Clinic is available to persons with spasticity/dystomia and addresses increased muscle tone and/or rigidity as well as hyperactive reflexes, dystomia, and spasms. Spasticity is usually related to TBI, SCI, strokes, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases. This clinic functions to assess and recommend treatment to reduce spasticity/dystomia.

Treatment can include:

  • Oral spasticity medications
  • Botox injections for isolated muscle groups with increased tones
  • Intrathecal medications (medications delivered directly into the spinal fluid) for more generalized spasticity/dystomia
  • Physical Therapy for stretching extremities to assist in reducing tight muscles
  • Referral for surgery to release and/or lengthening tight tendons
  • A team assessment of each phase of your treatment to better provide education, help you set your goals, and maximize your level of functioning by reducing spasticity
