    Current Research

    Dr. Vaidya heads the Engineered Plastics and Composites Laboratory.

    The research is focused on new and innovative thermoplastic composite materials and fabrication technologies for low-cost, lightweight, high-performance applications for mass transit, military, and civil infrastructure applications.

  • Low cost thermoset processing (VARTM, SMC/BMC), process modeling, damage tolerance of sandwich composites, multifunctional composites, nanostructured carbon/carbon composites & adhesively bonded joints are other areas of ongoing research.

    Composite Manufacturing and Engineering Plastics Laboratory
    The composite materials laboratory is pursuing research in innovative materials development and manufacturing of advanced materials for different applications in the military, transportation, civil, automotive and aerospace fields. These activities are supported by a number of projects and collaborations with the National composites Center in Dayton (Ohio), the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), the Federal Transit Authority (FTA), and private business partners in the composites area.
