Experience

Dr. Fouad has served on the School of Engineering faculty since 1981 and previously taught at Texas A&M University. He has published numerous technical articles and reports in the field of structural engineering.

Research Interest

Dr. Fouad's expertise is in the behavior of reinforced concrete structures, precast/prestressed concrete product development, and concrete materials. He chairs several national technical committees, and is highly involved in the development of standards for precast products.

Current Research

  • Development of National Standard Specifications for the Design of Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals (funded by National Academy of Sciences)
  • Widening of Conventional Reinforced Concrete Bridges Using New Precast Sections (jointly funded by Alabama Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration)
  • Evaluation of High Carbon Fly Ashes for Use in Concrete (funded by Southern Company)
  • Performance of Concrete Containing Large Volumes of Fly Ash (funded by Monex Resources)
  • Use of High Carbon Fly Ash in Concrete Products (funded by Tennessee Valley Authority)
  • Properties of Centrifugally Cast Concrete (funded by Sherman International)
