External Advisory Board

Purpose

The BME External Advisory Board is composed of diverse national leaders from industry, academia and government who have professional expertise in biomedical engineering and related disciplines.  The External Advisory Board meets periodically with students, faculty, staff and administrators, and provides impartial expert guidance, strategic direction and management advice.  The Board appraises the mission, strategic plan, and the programs BME has developed to meet their educational objectives.  The Board acts as a sounding board for new ideas and supports the department and Departmental Chair.  The objectives of the advisory board are to (i) advise the Chair on policy matters; (ii) assist in facilitating high quality engineering education; (iii) promote and advance the best interests of the Department among alumni, other individuals and organizations; (iv) increase the internal and external visibility of the Department, faculty, students and research programs; and (v) actively assist the Chair in securing financial support, particularly from alumni, business and industry.  The Board will offer insight and feedback to the Department, through the Chair, on opportunities to enhance student, faculty and staff distinction as well as increase departmental funding, enhance visibility in the local and national communities, and increase national ranking.  The faculty will use the Board’s feedback to improve the Department’s programs, services, and facilities.
