About Us

Office for Undergraduate Research

The mission of the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR) is to advance student learning through research. We strive to fulfill this mission by providing the following:

  • a searchable database of undergraduate research opportunities that match student interests to faculty research
  • a connection between faculty and students interested in undergraduate research
  • outlets and opportunities for communicating results of student research
  • the promotion of undergraduate research to internal and external audiences
  • the coordination of central support for undergraduate research

Christopher W. Reaves, Director
Dr. Christopher W. Reaves is the Director of the Office for Undergraduate Research at the University of Alabama Birmingham and retains a faculty appointment with the Department of Government in the School of Social Behavioral Sciences. A specialist in community and local economic development, public policy and program evaluation, Dr. Reaves’ research has covered topics as diverse as public transit compliance of disability standards, effectiveness of domestic violence prevention initiatives, educational delivery systems and economic development programs. For the last decade, he has been actively engaged in environmental and sustainable development research and practice, specifically assisting local governments in developing their capacity to redevelop contaminated properties.
