What to Bring (and Not Bring) To Campus
We are often asked about what residents should bring with them when they come to campus. So, we have created a list of suggested items—what to bring and to leave at home—to help you while you pack. Depending on your assignment, you will have one or three roommates; so you might want to consider bringing the minimum of kitchen and common area items (if applicable) until you have consulted with your new roommates. Given the limited closet, dresser and floor space, we strongly encourage students to refrain from bringing all winter clothes and large items, such as personal refrigerators, computer desk, bookshelves, etc., until you arrive and see how you want to make best use of your space. If you have any specific questions concerning what to bring to campus, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Student Housing and Residential Life.
Do Bring: - Pillow, blanket/bedspread
- Sheets/pillowcases (extra long twin bed)
- Towels & toiletries
- Desk lamp/desk organizer
- Wastebasket
- Drawer liner (not contact paper)
- Personal items (pictures, posters, etc.)
- White putty (sticky tack) to hang items on wall
- Surge protector
- Sewing kit
- Umbrella & raincoat
- Cleaning supplies
- Broom or small vacuum
- Laundry basket, detergent, starch, iron
- Clothes hangers
- Dishes, pots, pans, food storage containers
- Small microwave
- Can opener
- Flip flops
- Fan
- Flashlight
- Personal radio/stereo with headphones
- Small TV and cable cord
- Lamp
- Alarm clock
- Stamps and envelopes
- Small first aid kit (bandages, aspirin, cotton balls, etc.)
- An open mind and sense of adventure
Don't Bring: - Large stereo systems
- Lofts
- Pets (including fish)
- Halogen lamps
- Appliances with exposed heating elements (hot plates, toaster ovens, etc.)
- Candles or incense
- Firearms or any other weapons
- Double-sided tape to hang items on surfaces
- Alcohol containers used as decoration
