Students 07 Science Class
What kinds of students does UAB look for? People ready to get involved and work out solutions. Potential leaders who have been waiting to put their curiosity and creativity to the test. Students who want to make a difference, and an impact.
  • Success at UAB begins with a strong high school academic curriculum. Take 4 years of English, 3 years of social science, 3 years of math (Algebra 1 and higher), 3 years of science (must include 2 lab sciences), and 1 year of a foreign language and 3 additional core courses for a total of at least 17 core courses.
  • Impressive GPA and test scores are a plus. UAB generally admits students with a minimum ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 950 (critical reading/math) and a minimum GPA of 2.25. UAB considers all applications on an individual basis.
  • UAB gives consideration to honors level courses completed in high school, including any Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits you may have. UAB also accepts College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credits.
  • Certain programs have additional requirements beyond those for general admission. For details, contact the office of Undergraduate Admission.
  • You can apply for concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment and take courses as a nondegree student at UAB while enrolled as a high school junior or senior. Requirements for both include a minimum 3.0 GPA, a 25 ACT score or 1140 SAT combined score (creative thinking + math), a written statement of support from a parent or guardian, written approval from a high school representative, a one-page essay, a completed admission application, and the appropriate application fee.
