I am a Registered Dietitian currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences through UAB& Department of Nutrition Sciences, Division of Physiology and Metabolism. I received my B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from Louisiana Tech University in 2000, after which I completed a dietetic internship and M.S. in Nutrition at Virginia Tech University in 2004. I am currently supported with a fellowship from the Cancer Control and Prevention Training Program. My mentors are Dr. Jose Fernandez and Dr. Doug Heimburger. Under Dr. Fernandez’s direction, my research interests are focused on the application in humans of genetic admixture to predict and prevent obesity and cancer. My eventual goal is to combine the practice of genetic admixture with nutrigenomics and behavioral change in clinical research to investigate preventive nutrition practices. |
