Yolanda Cate, MS, OTR, CDE

Yolanda Cate, MS, OTR/L, CDE., is an occupational therapist and certified diabetes educator currently living in Lithia, Florida, where she works as a manager and owner of an occupational therapy private practice providing low vision rehabilitation services and diabetes education (www.otrehabsolutions.com).

She has extensive experience in both clinical practice and teaching. She served on the occupational therapy faculties of the University of Kansas (1995-1998), Texas Women’s University (1999-2001) and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (2001-2003).

While at the University of Texas, she developed a proposal for the Lions Low Vision Center of Texas, an outpatient multidisciplinary low vision rehabilitation center, which opened in August of 2003. She worked for many years as a staff therapist at the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City’s low vision and blind vocational rehabilitation program.

She joined the faculty at UAB as an adjunct in 2003 where she teaches in the Occupational Therapy Graduate Program’s Certificate for Low Vision. Her research has been published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and she authored the chapter on diabetes self-management for persons with low vision for the AOTA self-paced clinical course: Occupational Therapy Intervention with the Older Adult.
