The Medical Technology Program graduates perform a variety of laboratory tests that contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The program was started in 1945 and was one of the first programs developed in the UAB Medical Center, as well as one of the first in the country.
Medical technologists assure the quality of test results through performance and monitoring of quality assessment processes, evaluate new diagnostic assays, and resolve complex laboratory problems. They also prepare professional presentations and collaborate with other members of the health care team in establishing and monitoring alternate site testing
