Nutrition fellows are fully credentialed as attending physicians in the UAB Health System, and second-year fellows sometimes serve for brief periods as attending physicians on our clinical services.
Inpatient First-year Fellows have major responsibilty for Nutrition Support Service rounds (
www.uab.edu/nutritionrotation). Major consult areas include all patients on parenteral nutrition in the VA Hospital, patients seen on request in University Hospital.
Outpatient Fellows also have responsibilities in the following clinics and clinical programs.
- Nutrition Clinic, seeing patients for gastrointestinal dysfunction, short bowel syndrome, home parenteral and enteral nutrition, and assorted medical conditions.
- The UAB EatRight Weight Management Program (www.eatright.uab.edu ), including the Medical Nutrition Risk Reduction Clinic, which treat obesity and its complications.
- Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic (www.toneyourbones).
