SHP Exposure Control
The administration and faculty of the School of Health Professions are committed to the health and welfare of students enrolled in health care professions. Various immunizations and medical requirements must be satisfied prior to enrollment in SHP (see Student Health and Insurance Programs: Immunization Policy). In addition, the UAB Medical Center Student Health Service provides specific medical care to enrolled students (see Student Health and Insurance Programs: Student Health Service). Every attempt is made to provide appropriate instruction in the utilization of universal and transmission precautions and exposure control procedures. Specific requirements vary according to the curricula of each academic program. Students are expected to comply with the standards set by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) (29.CFR Part 1910.1030), the Centers for Disease Control Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Tuberculosis, and the SHP program policies and procedures. The SHP Exposure Control Plan applies to all students, faculty, and staff in SHP. The UAB Biosafety Manual applies to all students, faculty and staff in SHP.
