The School of Health Professions welcomes applications from all individuals who are prepared for the programs offered. All applicants must offer acceptable evidence of ability and intent to meet the academic standards specified by the particular program into which admission is desired. In addition, certain immunizations are required prior to enrollment; see

Essential Requirements: Fundamental tasks, behaviors, and abilities necessary to successfully complete the academic and clinical requirements of the program and to satisfy licensure/certification requirements, if any, have been outlined and are available upon request from the academic program office. Students requesting disability accommodations must do so by filing a disability accommodation request in writing with the Disability Support Services Office.
Baccalaureate Programs
SHP provides the professional phase for the following programs leading to a Bachelor of Science degree: health sciences, cytotechnology, health information management, medical technology, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy/radiologic sciences, radiography/radiologic sciences, respiratory therapy. The preprofessional phase of these programs may be completed by taking the prescribed coursework at UAB or any other accredited university or college. Entrance requirements for the individual educational programs of SHP vary widely. Persons desiring admission to a particular program should consult the section of this catalog pertaining to that program for specific entrance requirements, application, and program information.
Students who attend an institution other than UAB are encouraged to seek academic advisement from the SHP program of their interest as early as possible to plan for completion of program prerequisites.

Graduate Programs
SHP offers Doctor of Philosophy degree programs in administration/health services (offered jointly with the UAB School of
Business), nutrition sciences, Doctor of Science in physical therapy and a Doctor of Physical Therapy; Master of Science degree programs in clinical laboratory sciences, clinical nutrition, health
administration, health informatics, occupational therapy, surgical physcian assistant, and a Master of Nurse Anesthesia. Postbaccalaureate certificates are also offered for the Dietetic Internship and Low Vision Rehabilitation programs.
