I am Suguna Badiga from India pursuing Ph.D in Nutrition Sciences in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at UAB. I had been in the program since Fall 2006 . I have completed my B.Sc in Home Science and M.Sc in Foods and Nutrition from Women's Christian College, affiliated to the University of Madras, India in 1994 and 1998 respectively. I have also completed a Certificate course in Nutrition from the National Institute of Nutrition (Indian Council Of Medical Reserach), Hyderabad, India in 2000 and had been in the teaching profession before enrolling in the program.  My mentor is Dr. Chandrika Piyathilake, Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences. My current research interest is focused on the associations between genetic variants of genes in the folate metabolic pathway and biomarkers of cancer risk.I believe that there is a strong need for recommendations in nutrient intake based on the ability of the body to handel nutrients as a result of genetic variations to reduce disease risk.
