I am currently pursing a Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences through UAB's Department of Nutrition Sciences. I received my B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Florida State University in 2005, after which I completed a M.S. in Nutrition Sciences at UAB in 2009. Currently I am supported by a supplemented fellowship from the Cancer Control and Prevention Training Program. My mentor is Dr. Jose Fernandez. I have also worked with a post doc on our team, Dr. Krista Casazza on her PRIMO study, a weight loss intervention in overweight African American 9-14 year old girls. Under Dr. Fernandez's direction, my research interests are focused on behavioral contributors to child adiposity, particularly in diverse populations. For my dissertation I plan to focus on underlying behavioral, environmental and hormonal predictors of weight regain following weight loss on a hypocaloric diet. My eventual goal is to translate scientific research by creating culturally appropriate interventions in children to prevent overweight. |
