
The new Biotechnology concentration in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences graduate program (MSCLS) and the new graduate certificate program in biotechnology are UAB’s response to the high demand for workers in the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Industry. The program will begin training its first class in
August, 2009.
The Biotechnology Program consists of three semesters of course work, a two week internship at a Biotechnology company, a research project and a scientific poster presentation at the end of the third semester. A student can choose to complete 34 credit hours for the M.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences with a concentration in Biotechnology or 20 credit hours for a Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology.
Our goal is to train students in three semesters such that they will be prepared to accept lucrative positions in the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical industry and immediately contribute to their companies.The training provided by the program is unrivaled building scientific and applied knowledge through didactic and hands-on training in core courses including Scientific Publications, Molecular Diagnostics, Protein Chemistry and Recombinant DNA Technology.
