Credentialed respiratory therapists (CRT/RRT) are eligible to complete this program. Courses qualify for tuition reimbursement at many hospitals. Successful completion of this program qualifies for 120 continuing education units (CEUs) to apply towards respiratory therapy state license renewal. Upon successful completion of the requirements, the graduate will be immediately eligible to sit for the sleep registry exam (RPSGT).
The two semester sequence provides a more relaxed pace to acquire important knowlegde and skills. Candidates must be enrolled as UAB students to participate in the polysomnography program option and receive university course credit. Each semester the student will take a lecture/lab course (2 semester hours) and a clinical course (2 semester hours).

Admission Process for Certificate in Polysomnography
Application Deadline: Applications will be reviewed as they are received all year. Students meeting the program requirements will be interviewed and an acceptance decision will be made immediately afterwards. Applications after October 30th will be considered on a space available basis. The following materials must be submitted to the UAB Undergraduate Admissions Office: completed UAB undergraduate application form indicating Undeclared Health Sciences as a major and fee if applicable to: Respiratory Therapy Program Office, RMSB 486, zip 1212, completed application to the professional phase of the Program (form available from program office), application fee, and current transcript.
Requirements for Admission: Applicants must satisfy one of the following to be eligible for admission to the program: 1) CRT or RRT credential with items 3&4 below or 2) senior student in good standing in the UAB respiratory therapy program (having completed program prerequisites items 1-4 below):
1. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (A=4.0
2. Have a grade of C or better in each course in the UAB/Program Core Curriculum.
3. Be accepted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and pass the school-specified background check.
4. If accepted, complete the UAB medical history questionnaire and physical, provide proof of required immunizations and current BCLS certification, and receive satisfactory screening by the UAB Medical Center Student Health Service
