Postdoctoral trainee Douglas Moeller, PhD, Department of Nutrition Sciences, received a Charles Barkley Young Investigator Award at the UAB Minority Health and Research Center (MHRC) annual conference in March 2006.
Young investigators are selected annually from among students, fellows, and faculty at UAB and other colleges and universities, following a poster presentations of their research projects. Dr. Moellering presented the results of clinical investigations of diabetes and insulin resistance. The Barkley Award includes a cash prize funded from a MHRC endowment by former National Basketball Association star and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who will host the MHRC Gala, September 29, 2006.
