On Saturday, November 7th, the UAB School of Health Professions was awarded first place in the campus-wide Homecoming Spirit Competition sponsored by the UAB National Alumni Society. It is the eighth consecutive year that the School has finished in first place in the competition. Activities during the week for SHP included a series of alumni breakfast and lunch meetings in local health care facilities as well as the SHP Fab 40 Alumni Awards Dinner and the semi-annual meeting of the Dean's Advisory Board. SHP also placed second in the building decoration competition and had the winning team in the annual Gurney Derby race, which was comprised of a group of Surgical Physician Assistant program students. Several SHP programs participated in the Homecoming Parade with either float or car entries, and in other campus and student activities held during the week.
"Homecoming week is an excellent opportunity for our faculty, staff and students to work together as a team, and to interact with each other in a fun and casual atmosphere. I am so incredibly proud of the hard work of all who were involved. While Homecoming is not the most important thing we do, it does demonstrate the commitment, teamwork and excellence that exists within our School," says Dean Harold Jones.
