Darrell E. Burke, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Master’s of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) Program. Previously he was an Assistant Professor of Medical Informatics in the College of Information at Florida State University. Prior to his career in academe Dr. Burke was the Director of Systems and Procedures at Mayo Clinic’s Jacksonville Florida Hospital (St. Lukes) and a healthcare information technology implementation consultant.

Dr. Burke received his B.S. (industrial engineering) from Auburn University, his M.S. (technical systems management) from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, and his Ph.D. (health services organization and research) from Virginia Commonwealth University. His dissertation was, Information Technology Strategy-Environmental Fit and Hospital Financial Performance.

His research has focused on the development of healthcare information technology (HIT) strategy measures, and the antecedents and outcomes associated with HIT Strategy. He has also analyzed the role of technology in consumer information seeking behavior of persons with cancer. Dr. Burke is a member of Academy of Management Health Care Management Division and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Dr. Burke received the Florida State University College of Information’s Outstanding Faculty Award (2005-2006) and the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division’s Best Paper from Dissertation (2003).
