Lee Shackleford, M.F.A., is a director and a writer for stage, television and radio. He was selected as guest artist in the 2004 Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive. Shackleford also is the head writer and producer of UAB’s radio health drama series “Bodylove.” As UAB’s resident playwright, Shackleford creates new works for UAB’s touring theater groups as well as many other produced works that were first mounted on UAB stages, such as “Pawn to King’s Bishop,” “May Flies Fast” and “Holmes and Watson,” which enjoyed a successful run off-Broadway with Shackleford in the role of Sherlock Holmes. Shackleford’s writing for television includes “Star Trek: the Next Generation.” Shackleford also creates stage special effects, creating illusions for Radio City Music Hall and the Metropolitan Opera, and is the author of a book, “Stage Effects and Props for Easter and Christmas.” He directs UAB’s annual Festival of Ten-Minute Plays. Lee Shackleford teaches playwriting and scriptwriting courses as well as play analysis and a variety of other subjects in the UAB Department of Theatre.
