Cathleen Cummings, Ph.D., specializes in the art of India and South Asia and the Himalayas. Her current research focuses on the iconography of an eighth-century Hindu temple in south India, considering the temple’s iconographic program in relation to temple patronage, dharmic kingship and yogic practice. Other research interests include Marathi illustrated manuscripts of the Deccan and South India, 17th century Mewari painting and Hindu architecture. Recent publications include several articles in the exhibition catalogue, “The Circle of Bliss: Buddhist Meditational Art.” She is an instructor in the UAB Department of Art and Art History.
