The University of Alabama at Birmingham

The UAB Strategic Plan

The UAB Vision

UAB's vision is to be an internationally renowned research university — a first choice for education and health care.

The UAB Mission
UAB's mission is to be a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social and economic benefit of Birmingham, the state and beyond.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham sets itself ambitious goals.

And achieves them.

With some 18,000 students and more than 18,000 employees, an annual economic impact of more than $3 billion on the Birmingham area, and a growing, increasingly traditional campus in the heart of a vibrant and diverse community, the university offers unparalleled opportunities for teaching, research, scholarship, and service. UAB realizes that "what gets measured gets done," and works toward its six primary goals initially introduced in our 2003 strategic plan with a set of accompanying scorecards to ensure that we are accountable to the state we serve. The progress we have made since then is a credit to our faculty, our staff, and our students, as well as our alumni and friends, and we are pleased to share our results.
