The University of Alabama at Birmingham

Advanced Placement (AP)

Disclaimer

What is Advanced Placement?
Many high schools across the United States participate in the Advanced Placement Program (AP). High school students who participate in the AP Program are exposed to college-level material through AP courses and take AP exams to demonstrate their mastery of the material. Students may be able to earn college credit based on the AP exam scores.

How do I get Advanced Placement credit at UAB?
If you took AP exams in high school, you need to have AP Services send an official AP transcript to UAB.

You can request that an official AP transcript be sent to UAB by calling or writing AP Services at:

AP Services
P.O. Box 6671
Princeton, NJ 08541-6671
(888) 225-5427
About AP Website

Request that the official transcript be sent to:

UAB
School code: 1856
1400 University Blvd.
Hill University Center, Rm. 470
Birmingham, AL 35294-1150
(205) 934-3704

What if I have transferred to UAB from another college and the college from which I transferred has already evaluated my AP scores?
You will still need to have an official AP transcript sent to the above UAB address. UAB has to evaluate AP credit based on UAB policy, not the policy of another university.

When will credit be posted to my transcript?
If you are enrolled in courses at UAB as an undergraduate, degree-seeking student, credit will be posted to your transcript as soon as your AP scores have been evaluated.

Will I be notified when credit has been posted to my transcript?
No. You will only be notified if credit cannot be posted to your transcript.

All AP credit is recorded on the transcript with a grade of "P". AP credits may not be used in repeating a course. No more than 45 semester hours of alternative credit may be applied toward a degree. Credit will only be posted to the transcript of UAB undergraduate, degree-seeking students who are enrolled in classes after the drop/add date.

Disclaimer: AP exams are re-evaluated every 2-3 years, and cut-off scores and the credit awarded may change.
