Eric Sorscher, M.D., is internationally recognized as a leader in research and treatment of cystic fibrosis. In 1997, he was the first researcher in the United States to introduce the corrected gene for cystic fibrosis to the lungs of patients using a lipid molecule vector. This promising gene-based research could be the basis for future treatments of CF. Sorcher is a professor in the department of medicine and the department of physiology and biophysics at UAB. He is the director of UAB’s Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center. Board-certified in internal medicine, Sorscher is also a senior scientist in UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and a scientist in UAB’s AIDS Center.
