BIRMINGHAM, AL — George Howard, Dr.P.H., has joined the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as chair of the department of biostatistics in the School of Public Health.

Prior to joining the UAB faculty, Howard served as a faculty member of the department of public health sciences at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Howard has authored more than 100 articles published in scientific journals. He is the associate editor of C.V.D. Prevention and has served as a reviewer for numerous academic journals and National Institutes of Health study sections.

Howard received his doctorate degree in biostatistics from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds master's degrees in biostatistics, business administration and operations research.

He and his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Jackson, have three children, Letitia, age 20, Annie, age 16, and Marjorie, age 11.
