    and

Registration

BlazerID: Only for Current UAB/UABHS Personnel

Current UAB employees, students, and staff should use their BlazerID to register.
Using any other method to access the course may delay or negate your training credit.
If you do not have a BlazerID, please visit BlazerID Central to get one: https://idm.blazernet.uab.edu/bid/reg.

Register at https://padlock.dpo.uab.edu/cgi-bin/train_reg?code=IRNC.
After you have registered, access the course at https://uabcourses.uab.edu/webct/logon/425020126041.

If you are blocked from registering, your initial IRB training may not be recorded in BlazerNET. To check:
  • Log in at https://blazernet.uab.edu.
  • Click the Courses and Training tab
  • Look under Training and Requirements for your regulatory training.

If you completed initial training thatis not shown in BlazerNET, please contact the OIRB (934-3789 irb@uab.edu).
To complete initial IRB training, see http://www.uab.edu/irb/training/initial.

XIAS Account: Only for Authorized Non-UAB Personnel

To be authorized:
  1. You should not be a current UAB/UABHS employee, student, or staff member;
  2. You should be involved in research reviewed by the UAB IRB; and
  3. The OIRB must have a training record for you that includes
    1. Your name
    2. Your initial IRB training and
    3. Your e-mail address that is tied to your research work, such as @chsys.org or @jcdh.org.

Once you are authorized to register for the course, you need what is called a XIAS account.
To see if you already have one:

  1. Go to https://idm.blazernet.uab.edu/xias/reg.
  2. Click the link for new users and forgotten XIAS passwords.
  3. Enter your email address as on file with the OIRB. If you are already authorized to register for this course, the XIAS system will recognize your email address. It will then send a message to that address with further instructions and a link to the course.

If you believe you should be authorized but the XIAS system does not recognize you, check three things:

1. Be sure that you need training for the UAB IRB.
The UAB IRB records and tracks training for people who are involved in research it reviews and are not covered by another IRB.

In general, the UAB IRB does not record or track training for people
  • who are listed as collaborators on UAB research but work for or attend another institution that has its own IRB (that work should be reviewed by that IRB)
    or
  • who are not involved in research reviewed by the UAB IRB.
2. Be sure you are using the email address on file with the IRB (where you receive email from the OIRB).
As an example, say you work at The Children's Hospital of Alabama and you took the CITI Basic Biomedical Course for initial IRB training at UAB, but you used an email address from yahoo, gmail, etc. Usually in such cases, someone in the OIRB contacts you to confirm your affiliation with the UAB IRB. Your training is then recorded with an email address that reflects your research affiliation (e.g., @chsys.org).
3. Be sure the OIRB has a record of your initial IRB training.
Ask someone who has a BlazerID to check your training in IRB e-reports, or contact the IRB (934-3789, irb@uab.edu). If you find that you need to complete initial training, visit http://www.uab/edu/irb/training/initial.

If you have considered these three things and still believe you need to complete this course, please contact the Office of the IRB at UAB (934-3789, irb@uab.edu).

Documentation

The OIRB no longer sends completion certificates for continuing training courses.

If you take the informed consent course with a XIAS account—as soon as you pass the course—click "Grades" (under Course tools) and print that page if you want your own documentation.

NOTE: The Office of the IRB is copying training records from the IRB database to BEDROC. During this transition,
  • The IRB database contains training information not shown in BlazerNET
  • The Informed Course is shown only in BlazerNET

Check your own IRB training in BlazerNET

Many regulatory courses completed online through UAB are recorded in BlazerNET.
A link to a certificate for each course appears 24 hours after you pass the course.

  1. Go to https://blazernet.uab.edu.
  2. Log in and go to the Courses and Training tab.
  3. Look on the right side of the screen for the Training and Requirements Dashboard.
  4. There you should see a list of courses you:
    • Need to complete
    • Have completed (last 5)
    • A link to the Bedroc Status page that lists ALL of your regulatory training courses
  5. Beside each completed course is a printer icon.
  6. Click on it to view your certificate.
  7. Go to File on the menu bar and click on Print to get a printed copy.

Remember, if you just completed a course, it will NOT show up until tomorrow.
