2. How do I register?
a. Click on the specific course you’re interested in and download the registration form. For a list of upcoming courses, please click here.
b. While we can’t accept online payments or registrations yet, we are working on this. In the meantime, we accept phone, fax, or snail-mail registration.

4. What equipment is required to take the course?
None! But bring appropriate outdoor attire and weather gear, including shoes appropriate for easy to moderate hiking.
5. Are there pre-requisites to taking the course?
a. No specific pre-requisites, however previous training in CPR is assumed.
b. This course is open to any medical professional that holds a certificate or license.
6. Can I get educational credit for taking the course?
a. # CME AWLS is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit through the Wilderness Medical Society.
b. #CEU The AMA category I credits are good for nurses and EMTs as well.
c. The course is 17.5 hours of credit.
7. Is lodging included or do I have to sleep in a tent?
a. Lodging and meals are not included in the course fee. However, we will be holding a block of rooms for students who wish to stay in the park’s lodge (or similar arrangement), but the student must make their own reservation. These rooms will be released 45 days prior to the course, so we encourage you to make your reservations early!
b. If you choose to camp or make other lodging arrangements in the area, you are welcome to do so! There is no on-site requirement.
8. What qualifications must I have to take the advanced course?
a. AWLS certification is available to anyone with a medical degree or certification including: MD, DO, RN, DDS, DPM, PA, EMT and Paramedic.
b. There is a Basic Wilderness Life Support course that is available to persons who do not meet the above criteria. If you are interested in this course, please e-mail Dr. Phillips. Her contact information can be found at the Contact Us link.
9. How do I become an Instructor in AWLS?
a. After successful completion of the AWLS course, please see Dr. Phillips. You will be given an application and an opportunity to teach!
10. Can I sign-up with a partner/group?
a. Registration is open to anyone, and class size is limited. If you have a small group, we encourage early registration. If you have a group of at least twenty, please contact Dr. Phillips directly – we might be able to provide your group with a course just for you!
