- Update COP, VPFA, and ADE regularly, with emphasis on criteria and procedures for promptly requesting the assistance of local public safety agencies in all life threatening situations.
- Review local Emergency Management Plans.

- Know the location of building plans and critical infrastructures.
- Discuss vulnerabilities with your police officers.
- Check communication systems monthly.
- Ensure CCTV and Cardkey System is fully operational (if applicable).
- Ensure every building exterior door is lockable either manually or electronically.
- Ensure exterior and parking area lighting is fully funtional.
- Remind employees, students, and contractors of the necessity of wearing their UAB ID badges while on UAB property.
- Ensure visitors sign the visitor's register upon entering or exiting the facility during non-business hours.

- Maintain on-going liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement officials.
- Be alert to all suspicious activity and take appropriate action in case of :
- Unknow vehicles, any packages or containers left near the buildings or air intake locations.
- Strangers or previously unidentified groups taking unusual interest in the building or grounds (asking questions, taking pictures, lingering near the facility or requesting the use of space when the facility is located near a high profile event).
- Maintain liaison with associated outline facility directors.
- Ensure emergency communication / alert notification plans are updated.
- Coordinate with UAB Facilities Management regarding the emergency disaster preparedness of utility systems.
Risk Level: ElevatedComplete recommended actions at lower levels, plus the following:
- Ensure vendor list of all routine and emergency deliveries, repair services, consulting staff, and additional support personnel are updated.
- Ensure alternate discharge / pickup locations outside the facility perimeter for mass transit vehicles can be activated.
- Review alternate internal traffic patterns for the facility.
- Increase officer visibility in high traffic areas.
- Make frequent checks of the exterior and parking areas.
- Review and update recall rosters with emergency plan coordinators.
- Validate the number of personnel available for the manpower pool should the Emergency Management Plan be activated. These numbers should cover all primary shifts and days of the week.
Risk Level: HighComplete recommended actions at lower levels, plus the following:
- Determine need to restrict access to facility. If possible, provide support to associated outline Facilities.
- Ensure vehicles are kept clear of main entrances and unauthorized areas.
- If necessary, erect barriers and obstacles to control traffic flow.
- Ensure that all vendor lists delivered by organizational units to UAB Police are current.
- Mass transit should be notified of any restrictions to facility access.
- Ensure vacant buildings, storage areas, and rooms are positively secured.
- Place manpower pool on alert.
- Prepare for extended tours of duty of police officers and other UAB essential personnel.
- Prepare for the immediate activation of traffic control and building access check points.
Risk Level: SevereComplete recommended actions at lower levels, plus the following:
- Activate 100% ID checks at primary building entrances and with the facility perimeter.
- If possible, restrict vehicle entrances / exit to one location.
- Close facility to mass transit vehicles.
- Activate alternate internal traffic plan.
- Keep communications open, listen for current information and instructions and limit rumors.
- Activate manpower pool.
- Work with local law enforcement agencies, FBI, and mutual aid networks; as well as utilities to meet immediate needs of the community.
- Be prepared to work with a dispersed or smaller work force.
- Listen to TV / radio for current information / instructions.
