Scholarships
Below is a listing of scholarships available in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. For questions or more information please contact the Dean's Office at (205) 934-5102.
God at the Speed of Light Endowed ScholarshipsRequirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled, or admitted to, a degree-granting program in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Applicants should demonstrate academic promise and have earned at least a 2.5 grade point average in coursework completed prior to application. Preference will be given to applicants who are deserving of financial assistance. This is an annual award and recipients may apply for the award in subsequent years.

Number and Amount: 1 Incoming Freshman, 1 Sophomore, 1 Junior, and 1 Senior Scholarship available; $1,250 annual award for each
The George F. Brockman, IV Endowed Scholarship FundRequirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Applicants should demonstrate academic promise and have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average in coursework completed prior to application. This is an annual award. Recipients of the scholarship may not apply for the award in subsequent years.

Number and Amount: One $1,250 scholarship available annually
School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dean's Leadership ScholarshipRequirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled, or admitted to, a degree-granting program in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities and academic promise and have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average in coursework completed prior to application. This is an annual award. Recipients of the scholarship may not apply for the award in subsequent years.

The Travis Wood Memorial Mathematics ScholarshipRequirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled as mathematics majors and have completed Calculus III. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA overall and in their mathematics courses. Preference will be given to full-time undergraduates with dependent(s) who are in need of financial aid. Special consideration is given to mature candidates who have suffered an interruption in their education. Graduate students and part-time students are also eligible.

Number and Amount: One $1,000 scholarship available annually
Fast Track Mathematics ScholarshipsRequirements: Students in this program are expected to complete both a BS and Masters degree in mathematics. Many students do this in 4 years. Freshmen must be able to start in Calculus 1. All students must maintain a 3.5 GPA in mathematics courses. The program provides for office space, support to attend mathematical meetings, participation in a seminar and individual weekly meetings with a faculty member.
Deadline: Applications are accepted at any time.
Number and Amount: Continued support through MS degree. Up to 7 awards at $6,500 and up to 3 awards at $9,000 per year. Upgrades to $18,000 possible during the third and fourth years.
The Joseph M. Fontana Scholarship in Computer and Information SciencesRequirements: Applicants must be Junior or Senior student with a major in the Computer and Information Sciences program and should demonstrate academic promise and have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average in any course work completed prior to application. Additionally, a grade point average of 3.5 must have been achieved in all computer science courses taken up to the time of selection. Preference is given to U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. Recipients may apply for renewal for a second year.

Number and Amount: Up to two scholarships available for up to $4,000 annually, divided into $1,500 for fall, $1,500 for spring and $1,000 for summer terms
CSEMS Program Scholarships - UAB Scholarships in Computer Science, Engineering and MathematicsRequirements: Students must be an undergraduate Computer Science, Engineering or Math major, qualify for a federal financial aid award (Pell Grant, Work Study, Stafford Subsidized Loan), completed at least 50 credit hours and be within two years of graduation at time of award. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.6. Scholars must maintain a 2.5 GPA each term of award. Transfer students, from both two and four year institutions are eligible to apply.
Number and Amount: $3,125 per year for up to two years divided into equal installments.

Physics Faculty ScholarshipsRequirements: Must be a major in the Department of Physics
Deadline: April 15 and October 15
Number and Amount: Three $1,500 scholarships awarded per year
Application Form: Please visit the Department of Physics web site. NASA-Alabama Space Grant Proram ScholarshipsScholarships available to science and engineering students through the NASA-Alabama Space Grant Program. These scholarships are renewable until the end of current funding in 2010.
Deadline: April 1
Number and Amount: Six $1,000 scholarships per year available
Chemistry Scholars Program FellowshipsRequirements: Qualified incoming freshmen are eligible to apply to be a fellow in the Chemistry Scholars Program. Students must declare a chemistry major and have a composite ACT score of 26 or above.
Deadline: Application materials are due by February 1, 2007
Number and Amount: Fellowships are four-year awards that provide a stipend each of the four years so long as the scholar maintains a 3.0 GPA in Chemistry, is a Chemistry major, and is in good academic standing. For more information contact the Department of Chemistry at (205) 934-4747.
