PGY-2 Schedule
- Typically, inpatient call consists of q6 days call for the entire twelve months.
- The PGY2 resident usually has great support during their call night with approx 50% of their call nights with in-house Neurosurgery, Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Neurology and Psychiatry residents to help with admissions and cross-coverage of neurology patients.
- In addition, one or two third year medical students take call overnight each night with the neurology resident.
- Post-call residents are required to leave the hospital by 1 p.m. (noon conference is optional post-call).
- Senior Residents typically stay in-house until 8-10:00 p.m. the 1st three months to assist PGY2 residents with questions about consults and/or admissions.
- Backup call is ALWAYS provided with senior residents and attendings as needed.
PGY-3 Schedule
Adult Neurology (9 of 12 months)
- Call during your PGY3 year is typically q10 days back-up home call.
- There is NO IN-HOUSE CALL the entire PGY3 year (except for one day during Christmas/New Year's week).
- There is no weekend backup call for eight of the nine months.
Pediatric Neurology (3 of 12 months)
- Home call is usually q3-4 days for three months with attending pediatric neurology staff always available to answer questions as needed
PGY-4 Schedule
- Call during your PGY4 year is typically q10 days back-up home call for all 12 months.
- There is NO IN-HOUSE CALL the entire PGY4 year (except for one day during Christmas or New Year’s week)
- There is no weekend backup call for nine of 12 months during your PGY4 year.
Christmas/New Year's Schedule
- Residents typically choose which week (Christmas or New Year’s) they would like to work and which they would like to take vacation.
- Each resident works usually one in-house call during this week, and one back-up call during this week.
Total Calls
- The call schedule is kept up-to-date with documentation of total number of calls and weekend/holiday calls to ensure equal and fair treatment for all residents.
