The University of Alabama at Birmingham Neurology Residency Program is a four-year program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program leads to certification in adult clinical neurology. There are 24 resident positions.
Six new residents are appointed each year. ALL SIX RESIDENT POSITIONS INCLUDE AN AUTOMATIC FIRST YEAR (PGY1) IN INTERNAL MEDICINE through the UAB Internal Medicine Program.
The UAB Neurology Residency Program is GME approved. The following are the GME requirements of residency training that must be met prior to beginning the program:
- A graduate of a medical school in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or a graduate of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States and Canada accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- A graduate of a medical school outside of the United States and Canada must have a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or have a full unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing district.
