Clinical Research Activities
The various research projects below are currently being undertaken by the faculty and staff of the Comprehensive Stroke Research Center.

ALIAS
Albumin in Acute Stroke Trial: A study to ascertain whether high-dose human albumin therapy confers neuroprotection in acute ischemic stroke over and above best standard of care (specifically, to determine whether albumin therapy increases the proportion of acute ischemic stroke patients with favorable outcome compared to placebo therapy at 3 months from randomization)

IRIS Trial
Insulin Resistance Intervention after Stroke (IRIS) Trial: A randomized clinical trial that will test the effectiveness of a new treatment (pioglitazone) for preventing future strokes and heart attacks among persons with a recent stroke or TIA

PRoFESS Trial
Prevention Regimen For Effectively avoiding Second Strokes: A double-blind, active and placebo controlled study of Aggrenox® vs. clopidogrel, with and without Micardis®

RESPECT Trial
Randomized evaluation of recurrent stroke comparing PFO closure to established current standard of care treatment

Premium Trial
Prospective randomized investigation to evaluate incidence of headache reduction in subjects with migraine and PFO using the AMPLATZER PFO Occluder compared to medical management

TUSCON Trial
To provide information regarding the safety, tolerability, and activity in promoting recanalization (at 90 minutes) of escalating doses of MRX-801 accompanied by continuous ultrasound in conjunction with treatment with tPA in subjects with acute ischemic stroke
