CORD is proud to host the 2009 Alabama competition for the National Chemistry Olympiad. The Chemistry Olympiad is sponsored by the Alabama Section of American Chemical Society (ACS), CORD and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). High School chemistry students will compete in local (preliminary) testing on March 26th at their high school. On the basis of the test results, the top 10 students will be invited to compete in the National Chemistry Olympiad Examination at UAB on April 25th. The 20 highest scoring students on the National Exam will be invited to a paid, 2-week training session at the US Air Force Academy and a chance to represent the US in the International Chemistry Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary in July.
If you would like to participate in the local testing, please contact us ASAP. Test booklets will be sent to the participating schools around March 13th, thus, we must have all test requests from teachers by March 4th. Any chemistry teacher may apply to give the Local Examination at his/her school.
