Freshman Fall

· Math and appropriate science (if indicated by math placement).

Ideal: General Chemistry

· Participate in Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) Honor Society activities.

· October Fall Freshman Meeting to begin portfolio lluck@uab.edu

Freshman Spring

· Math and Science courses

       Ideal: General Chemistry and Biology

· February Freshman Seminar (about preparing for entrance exams).

· Participate in AED activities. See Linda Luck, Pre-Health Coordinator.

· Get to know at least one science professor this year.

Summer before Soph Year

· Community service project and shadow in a health related field.

· Course catch-up (consider taking only one course).

Sophomore Fall

· Math and science courses

Ideal: Organic Chemistry/Biology/Physics

· Volunteer work and shadowing

· Participate in AED activities and student leadership.

Sophomore Spring

· Math and science courses

Ideal: Organic Chemistry/Physics, consider taking Genetics

· Participate in AED activities, become an initiated member.

· Get to know at least one additional science professor this year.

· Core Principles of Modern Science; MCAT/DAT/OAT Practice

Summer before Junior Year

· Volunteer work and shadowing

· Course catch-up (consider taking only one course).

· MCAT/DAT/OAT Practice Tests. August MCAT, schedule DAT.

Junior Fall

· Coursework, AED. Work closely with Pre-Health Coordinator.

· Core Principles of Modern Science; MCAT/DAT/OAT Practice

· October OAT

· Enroll in Clinical Observation course (BY or CH).

· Get to know at least one additional science professor this year.

· Consider taking Biochemistry.

Junior Spring

· Coursework, AED; Continue clinical observation and shadowing.

· MCAT/DAT/OAT Practice Tests. April MCAT

· Ask three professors to write letters of recommendation for you. Completely fill form. Supply addressed envelope. Supply resume and personal statement. Send thank you note.

· Pre-Health Application, meetings with Pre-Health Coordinator.

Summer before Senior Year

· Complete Medical School /Dent/Opt Application. (Medical and Dental- June 1; Optometry Application-August 1)

Senior Fall

· Coursework, AED

· Continue clinical observation and shadowing. Interviews begin.

Senior Spring

· Coursework, AED

· Graduation, Acceptance!
