Adult AIDS Clinical Trials
Due to some new regulations on publicizing clinical trials at UAB, we are not giving detail on our currently enrolling clinical trials. However, if you would like to learn more about specific clinical trials, you are welcome to contact the research nurse manager, Karen Savage, RN at (205) 975-7925 or by email kgsavage@uab.edu or you can contact Harry Wingfield at (205) 934-3163 or by email harryw@uab.edu. If you have not yet taken HIV medicines, the 1917 Clinic has these studies:
One study if you are recently infected with HIV. If you are taking or have taken HIV medicines, the 1917 Clinic has these studies:
1. Some using new HIV medicines.
2. Some using new versions of HIV medicines.
3. Some using new ways of taking medicines or to make HIV medicines work better. The 1917 Clinic also has research studies...
...for pregnant women who are HIV positive.
...for people who have HIV and also have Hepatitis C.
...for people who have HIV and have high levels of lactate in their blood.
The Community Advisory Board exists to provide input to the AIDS research clinic staff, and to help disseminate information about AIDS research activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to the community at large. The goal of this dialogue between the community and the clinic’s research team is to facilitate AIDS research that meets the needs of medical science and the needs of the community served by our clinic, especially clinical trials participants. The UAB 1917 Clinic provides many services to the individual living with AIDS/HIV including an outpatient treatment clinic, research clinic, dental clinic, Women's HIV clinic, Oncology clinic, and a new Neurology Clinic. Among these services, the 1917 Clinic serves as one of approximately 30 U.S. federally funded AIDS Clinical Trials Group sites involved in the evaluation of experimental therapeutics. Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
