Biostatistics Core Background:

The Biostatistics Core for the Center for AIDS Research is a part of the larger Biostatistics Unit of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, which provides statistical services and collaborative research support for the members of the Cancer Center. The Biostatistics Unit is headed by Dr. Seng-jaw Soong, Professor of Medicine and Biostatistics, and it comprises 10 biostatisticians, 9 of whom are faculty members, and 23 data processing and other support personnel. The Biostatistics Unit occupies a total space of over 8,500 square feet in the North Pavilion Building and Wallace Tumor Institute. The Unit provided support for more than 130 research projects last year and currently has an annual operating budget of over 3.0 million dollars. The Unit serves as Statistical Coordinating Center for several national clinical study groups, including NIAID Collaborative Antiviral Study Group, and the AIDS-Associated Malignancies Clinical Trial Consortium. The Unit also functions as Biostatistics Core for the Center for AIDS Research and the General Clinical Research Center in addition to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB.
