Types of Marrow Transplants

Marrow:marrow1

There are several types of transplantations: Autologous, allogeneic, syngeneic and "non-myeloablative transplants".

Autologous transplants uses your own stem cells that are collected prior to chemotherapy and/or radiation.

Allogeneic transplants uses cells collected from a closely or completely matched individual.

Syngeneic transplant uses cells from an identical twin.

A non-myeloablativetransplant is a new type of allogeneic transplant, which can be used in patients who are unable to receive a traditional, ablative transplant. You and your UAB bone marrow transplant team will decide which transplant type is your best treatment option.
