Medical Information Services via Telephone
Medical Information Services via Telephone (MIST) is an information service which has handled over 17,000 rheumatology-related calls since 1977. Physicians or health professionals may request consultations, referrals, and other information 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
Physicians may contact a trained health-services MIST representative who will route your call to the appropriate UAB physician or other health-care specialist.
By dialing the toll free number, physicans can
- Obtain an immediate medical consultation;
- Schedule a referral;
- Request a transfer;
- Arrange for Critical Care Transport;
- Check on patients referred to UAB;
- Consult with UAB physicians about follow-up care for patients who have returned home; and
- Discuss diagnoses, new technology, clinical trials, and research findings.
