UAB instructor's documentary on breast cancer to screened 

UAB instructor Michele Forman, who teaches the ethnographic filmmaking class, will debut her own documentary, Climb for the Cause: A Breast Cancer Story during the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival Sept 28-30. The film tells the story of five Alabama women with breast cancer who decide to transform their grueling experience with the disease into something positive for other women. Climbing for the Cause will debut in the Alabama Documentary, Block No. 1 at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Alabama Power venue. UAB English instructor Eugene Cuevas and 16 students also will screen films during the festival.

Linney is new Social & Behavioral Sciences dean

Jean Ann Linney, Ph.D., vice president and associate provost for faculty and academic governance at the University of Notre Dame, joined UAB as dean for the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences Aug. 15.

Danielou named associate dean of Arts & Humanities

Catherine Danielou, Ph.D., an associate professor of French in the UAB Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures,, has been on the UAB faculty since 1990.

Robbin inducted as fellow in ACR

UAB professor of radiology Michelle L. Robbin, M.D., has been inducted as a fellow in the American College of Radiology. Dr. Robbin, chief of ultrasound at UAB, is on the board of governors of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the editorial boards of Radiology, Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Ultrasound Quarterly.

 

Shipman to direct UAB CDC 

Martina Shipman is the new director for the UAB Child Development Center. Shipman, who worked with the Child and Youth Services section of the U.S. Department of the Army for more than 17 years, has received a number of awards from the Army for her civilian service. A training and curriculum specialist, she has developed training programs in early childhood development consistent with the methods and techniques endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Under her direction, four child development centers and one school-age center have been accredited by NAEYC.

 UAB employees help promote World Breastfeeding Week

Thirty-five UAB employees are promoting World Breastfeeding Week at UAB Hospital by appearing on posters that will be displayed Aug. 1-7 in the atrium of Spain-Wallace.
