GCL Honors offers a community of like-minded peers, based upon common values such as academic curiosity, openness to new experiences, and a desire to solve problems combined with the ability to think critically. As such, GCL students enjoy taking advantage of the wide array of resources-lectures, film screenings, conferences, cultural events, and service projects-available at UAB and in the local community. GCL often organizes a group to attend such events. Furthermore, GCL Honors students can take advantage of the sense of community fostered among students in the other honors programs, as the Honors Academy also hosts social events for members of GCL Honors, Science and Technology Honors, and University Honors.
As a way to maintain contact and share thoughts outside of the classroom, GCL maintains a Facebook group. Anyone who is a member of both GCL Honors and Facebook is encouraged join the GCL Honors group by searching "GCL Honors" from his/her profile.
