Honors Academy GCL is one honors program under the larger umbrella of the Honors Academy. The Honors Academy is composed of GCL Honors, Science and Technology Honors, University Honors, and Early Medical School Acceptance Program. Each program offers unique opportunities, although all are distinguished by smaller classes, individual attention from faculty and academic advisors, and a community of like-minded, motivated students.
Departmental Honors
In addition to the university-wide honors programs, UAB also offers students the opportunity to participate in departmental honors. GCL Honors encourages students to participate in these programs, as such courses generally count towards the 15-18 hours of honors option/departmental honors required for completion of GCL Honors.

Study Abroad or Study Away UAB maintains a Study Abroad Program, which is specifically designed to assist students who are interested in those opportunities. Its mission states that “[UAB]… recognizes the existence of common global concerns and acknowledges the interdependence of nations and people throughout the world. The University, therefore, has a special responsibility and commitment to promote international education and provide its students with knowledge, skills, and understanding to become productive, creative, and culturally competent citizens of Alabama, the nation, and the world. Moreover, the University believes that international education serves to advance international understanding and peace.”
