Admission to UAB
Students should first apply and be admitted to UAB before applying to an Honors program. All applications are automatically considered for academic scholarships. However, the deadline for such automatic consideration for scholarships is December 1st of a student's senior year.

Applying to GCL Honors
GCL Honors admits students who have not only strong academic records, but also passion, motivation, ideas and initiative, and a desire to work towards the common good. If this describes you, we encourage you to apply.
- Complete the UAB application for undergraduate admission. To apply to UAB online, visit www.uab.edu/apply
- Complete the Honors Academy application ( www.uab.edu/honorsacademy), either online or by printing the pdf version.
- Include a resume and write a personal essay on one of the community/leadership topics (see * below).
- Return application packet with completed application, resume, and essay by the priority deadline of December 15.
- Submit two letters of recommendation and questionnaire by the priority deadline of December 15.
- Attend an interview in January, if selected by the program.
*GCL Honors Essay Options: Choose one of the following and write a 400-500 word essay.
- What national or global issue is the most important to address right now? Why is it so critical? As a leader, what creative solutions would you propose?
- Who is a leader you especially admire, either past or present? Explain why this leader is a role model for you, and how he or she has inspired your own leadership.
- How do leaders inspire and empower others to act? How is it possible for one person to create significant change in the broader society, and even the world?
- Addressing critical issues such as global warming, accessible health care, or poverty requires new ideas and innovative policy solutions. What role does leadership play in creating this new knowledge and translating it into positive change?
Scholarships and Financial Aid
UAB offers a variety of options for financial aid, including scholarships, grants, loans, or work-study. You can receive more information about each of these options on the Financial Aid website. Please remember that those students who wish to be considered for academic scholarships must apply for University admission by December 1st of their senior year.
In addition, for students who qualify, there will be scholarship assistance for study abroad/study away opportunities. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
